(Galloway, NJ) – Richard Stockton (1-1) rebounded nicely from their opening day loss with a 15-7 victory over Gwynedd Mercy (0-1) on Wednesday afternoon.
Vincent Manasia (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) paced the Ospreys with five goals in his first action of the season.
Stockton opened the scoring with two goals by
Nick Bologno (Glen Gardner/North Hunterdon) and Manasia. The tallies came just 1:03 apart to give the Ospreys a quick 2-0 lead.
Guy Loggi (Somers Point/Mainland) assisted on Manasia's score. The Griffins cut the margin to 2-1 late in the period.
The second frame saw both teams combine for five goals in a span 2:53 with Stockton getting the better of the fray.
Vinny Gencarelli (Rockaway/Morris Hills) continued his torrid start with the first of his three markers on the day. Al Manzo and Mason Risner sandwiched a goal by Bologno before Manasia connected again for a 5-3 Osprey lead.
Cal Sebor (Freehold/Freehold twp.) made it 6-3 on an unassisted tally before another Griffin score cut it to 6-4 Stockton at the break.
The Ospreys exploded in the third stanza to break the game open by outscoring Gwynedd Mercy 6-1 during the period. Manasia scored twice more with Gencarelli. Bologno assisted on all three goals and netted one also.
Tyler Van Benschoten (Saddle Brook/St. Joseph Regional) then scored his first career goal in a Stockton uniform to stretch the advantage to 11-5.
James O'Donnell (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) finshed up the onslaught with his first of the year to end the period with Stockton leading 12-5.
Manasia finshed up his big day scoring a goal just 13 seconds into the fourth period, then 41 seconds later,
Drew Wright (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) hit the net for his first of the year to make it 14-5, with O'Donnell picking up helpers on both markers. Gencarelli scored his seventh goal of the season before two scores by the Griffins set the final score of 15-7.
In addition to Manasia's five tallies, Bologno added three scores and dished five assists. Gencarelli chipped in with three scores while O'Donnell picked up a goal and two assists on the afternoon.
Shane Moyer (North Wales, PA/Archbishop Wood) and
Tony Pagano (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) combined to win 18-24 faceoffs (.750) with Pagano grabbing six ground balls and
Dan Lamela (Brick/Brick Memorial) scooping five more balls.
Tony McCraw and Tommy Belmont paced the Griffins with two goals apiece.
Freshman goalkeeper
Eric Leonard (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) earned his first career win making six saves before giving way to
Pat Quinn (Shrewsbury/Red Bank Regional) who played the last 11:47 kicking out four shots. John Black took the loss playing the first three periods and making 16 saves for Gwynedd Mercy. Ryan Murphy kicked out three shots playing the last 15 minutes.
Stockton will travel to FDU-Florham for their next match up Saturady afternoon. Faceoff is 2 pm.
