(Dover, DE) – Richard Stockton (3-2) saw their slim lead evaporate in the final minute as Wesley (2-0) scored twice to sneak past the Ospreys 10-9 in a back-and-forth contest. The defeat snapped Stockton's three-game winning streak.
Cal Sebor (Freehold/Freehold Twp.) paced the Ospreys with three goals and two assists for five points followed by
Nick Bologno (Glen Gardner/North Hunterdon) with two goals and one assist for three points.
Vinny Gencarelli (Rockaway/Morris Hills) and
Vincent Manasia (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) tossed in two goals apiece for the Ospreys. Stockton goalkeeper
Eric Leonard (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) finished with 10 saves while
Shane Moyer (North Wales, PA/Archbishop Wood) scooped a team-high four ground balls. The match featured four ties and three lead changes, with the margin exceeding two goals for just a single 2:39 span early in the game.
All three lead changes came during a tense fourth quarter that began with a Wesley goal that put the Wolverines on top 8-7 with 8:31 to play. Manasia tied the game 1:20 later with an assist by Sebor and the score remained deadlocked until
Guy Loggi (Somers Point/Mainland) gave Stockton a slim 9-8 edge with a helper by
James O'Donnell (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) with 1:39 on the clock. Wesley netted the tying goal with 56 seconds left, then won the faceoff and tossed in the game-winner with just seven ticks remaining to deal Stockton the 10-9 defeat.
Earlier, Stockton got off to a great start as Sebor, Manasia and Gencarelli scored the only three tallies of the first quarter to give the Ospreys a 3-0 lead that was the largest of the game by either team. Wesley outscored Stockton 4-2 in the second quarter to pull ahead 5-4 at the break. Bologno and Gencarelli registered the Osprey markers.
After Wesley tied the game two minutes into the second half, Sebor and Bologno scored 24 seconds apart to put Stockton back on top 7-5. Wesley then potted the last two goals of the period to pull into a 7-7 tie after three quarters and set the stage for the dramatic final stanza in which the Ospreys were just 57 seconds away from their fourth straight win but could not close out the game.
Stockton will play their next game at home on Wednesday, March 12 when they host Centenary at 7 pm.
