(Galloway, NJ) – Richard Stockton (12-4, 3-2 Skyline) got off to a great start but could not sustain the momentum and wound up on the short end of a 13-6 decision to Kean University (13-1, 4-0) in the Ospreys' last regular season home game. Stockton saw their three-game winning streak snapped by a Kean squad that has won 11 straight.
Vincent Manasia (Clark/ Arthur L. Johnson) scored two goals for the Ospreys and
Cal Sebor (Freehold/Freehold Twp.) contributed a goal and an assist.
After Kean opened the scoring two minutes into the game, Stockton dominated the next 10 minutes, netting four markers to build a 4-1 lead. Manasia accounted for the first two goals, which came 1:06 apart, followed by one apiece from Sebor and
Nick Bologno (Glen Gardner/North Hunterdon) for a three-goal advantage after one period. Kean seized the momentum with three goals in a 3:23 span of the second quarter for a 4-4 tie at the half.
In the third quarter, the Cougars took their first lead since the opening minutes at 5-4 but
Vinny Gencarelli (Rockaway/Morris Hills) answered just 35 seconds later to snap a 24-minute scoring drought for the Ospreys and pull them into a 5-5 tie. Kean controlled the game from there, reeling off eight straight goals in a 12-minute span.
Alex Epifano (Marlton/Cherokee) halted the run with the final goal of the night but the Ospreys suffered the 13-6 defeat.
Stockton goalkeeper
Eric Leonard (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) played the first 43 minutes and made 10 saves followed by
Pat Quinn (Shrewsbury/Red Bank Regional) with three stops in the last 17 minutes. Richard Cheifitz and John Marcelli scored three goals apiece for Kean while Matt Speicale tallied a game-high six points on a goal and five assists.
Stockton will conclude the regular season with a Skyline Conference road game at Farmingdale State on Saturday at 1 pm.
