(Farmingdale, NY) – Richard Stockton (12-5, 3-3 Skyline) concluded the regular season with a heartbreaking 9-8 defeat to Farmingdale State (8-5, 4-2) in overtime. The Rams scored the game-winner with just 0.9 seconds left in the first sudden-death OT period.
Vinny Gencarelli (Rockaway/Morris Hills) buried a team-high three goals while
Nick Bologno (Glen Gardner/North Hunterdon) tallied two goals and three assists to lead all players with five points.
Stockton was outdone 7-4 during a high-scoring first quarter. The teams exchanged two goals apiece in the first 5:32, with Bologno and
Matt Towne (Dover, DE/Dover) connecting for the Ospreys. Two straight markers by Farmingdale State were countered by two in a row from Gencarelli for a 4-4 tie before the Rams reeled off three straight goals in the last 3:26.
Stockton drew into a 7-7 tie at intermission with counters by
Vincent Manasia (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) and then Bologno and Gencarelli while holding FSU scoreless during the second quarter.
The scoring pace slowed considerably in the second half. The Rams potted the only goal of the third period and freshman defender
Lance Pecina (Clark/ Arthur L. Johnson) answered for Stockton with 11:15 left in the fourth stanza for an 8-8 tie. The teams combined for seven shots in the last 10 minutes of regulation but nobody could produce the game-winner and the match went to overtime.

Eric Leonard (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) made a save on the first FSU shot and Gencarelli was denied on a shot with 1:06 on the clock. Farmingdale State regained possession and missed a shot wide with 17 ticks remaining but then scored with just 0.9 seconds left in first OT to deal the Ospreys the 9-8 defeat. Leonard finished with 11 saves in the contest.
Despite the outcome, Stockton qualified for the Skyline Conference tournament as the No. 4 seed. The Ospreys will play a Skyline semifinal game at the No. 1 seed, which will be either Montclair State or Kean, on April 30.
