(Rosemont, PA) – Richard Stockton (11-3) dominated Rosemont College (3-8) from start to finish on the way to a 21-3 victory that was their second win in 48 hours.
Sal Gabriele (Nutley/Nutley) and
Tyler Van Benschoten (Saddle Brook/St. Joseph) led the Ospreys with three goals apiece and 12 different Stockton players scored in the game. The Ospreys collected their 11th win of the season, tying the 1997 squad for the second-most victories in school history.
Stockton seized control of the game by outscoring Rosemont 9-1 in the first quarter.
Nick Bologno (Glen Gardner/North Hunterdon) led the onslaught with two goals and two assists for his only four points in the match while Van Benschoten and
Max Becker (Oak Ridge/Jefferson) tossed in two goals apiece. Becker also dished an assist in the quarter.
In the second period, Van Benschoten notched his third marker of the game while
Alex Epifano (Marlton/Cherokee) potted his second and
Guy Loggi (Somers Point) added his first of two for a commanding 12-1 lead at the break.
Rosemont opened the second-half scoring 54 seconds into the third stanza, snapping a 27-minute shutout streak by the Ospreys. Stockton responded with goals by Loggi, Gabriele and
Cal Sebor (Freehold/Freehold Twp.) for a 15-2 advantage after three quarters.
The Ospreys closed out the 21-3 rout with six goals in the fourth period. Gabriele found the net twice while
Joe Petrilli (Galloway/Absegami) scored his first counter of the season and freshman
T.J. Johnson (Tabernacle/Seneca) collected his first career point with an assist on Gabriele's third goal of the game.
All three Stockton goalkeepers saw action in the contest, starting with
Eric Leonard (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) who earned the win with five saves in the first 21:45.
Pat Quinn (Shrewsbury/Red Bank) played the next 19:29 and made one save followed by
Nick Pearl (Springfield/Jonathan Dayton) who mopped up between the pipes for the last 18:46.
Stockton will have their first crack at tying the school record of 12 victories in a season on Saturday when the Ospreys visit Mount St. Mary (NY) for a Skyline Conference game at 2:30 pm.
