Stockton Win Streak Snapped with 56-52 Defeat

Boxscore

Galloway, NJ – Richard Stockton (12-4) could not overcome a poor-shooting first half and saw its five-game winning streak snapped with a 56-52 defeat to non-conference foe Baruch (12-4) on Monday night. The Ospreys, who never led in the game, started the night shooting just 8-38 (21.1%) in the first half, including 0-9 from behind the arc. Baruch defeated the Ospreys for the fourth straight year.

With the game tied at 2-2, the Bearcats ran off the next 18 points as Stockton had no answers on the offensive end. The Ospreys missed 15 consecutive field goal attempts before Lauren Alwan (Winslow/Timber Creek) finally ended the drought of 8:37 with a layup. Baruch was able to maintain their advantage and take a 31-20 lead into the locker room.

Stockton showed some life to begin the second stanza as they started on a 9-1 run to pull to within three at 32-29. Alwan and Sara Farrell (Marlton/Cherokee) combined for seven of the markers during the spurt. The Bearcats responded by using a 16-7 run of their own to stretch the lead back to 12 at 48-36 with 6:42 left in regulation.

The Ospreys climbed back to four at 49-45 with 4:23 to play as Farrell scored seven of Stockton's next nine points, but that was as close as they could get. The Bearcats were able to keep Stockton at bay by countering with the next five points on the way to dealing the Ospreys 56-52 defeat that was the team's first setback since December 17.

Alwan led the Ospreys with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. She also led the squad by dishing four assists. Farrell added 15 points as the only other Osprey in double figures. Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill West) led the team with 11 boards and a game-high six blocked shots. Francesca Gervato (Toms River/Msgr. Donovan) contributed off the bench by dishing three assists and sinking her only field goal attempt.

Francess Henry led three players in double figures for the Bearcats with a game-high 17 points and snagged 10 rebounds. Sheridan Taylor added 12 points and game-high 18 rebounds while teammate Iyana Abrams chipped in with 10 points and a game high of seven assists. Abrams and Taylor pilfered four steals each.

Stockton will return to NJAC play for their next tilt as they visit Rowan University on Wednesday night. Game time is scheduled for 6 pm.
