Stockton Dominates Rowan 71-55

Boxscore

Glassboro, NJ – Richard Stockton (13-4, 9-1 NJAC) never trailed and led by double figures for all but the first four minutes on the way to a dominant 71-55 win over Rowan (12-4, 8-2) that avenged an early-season loss to the Profs back in November. The Ospreys scored 40 points in the paint and led by as much as 26 on the way to victory. With the triumph, Stockton surpassed its win total from each of the last two seasons (12).

Four Stockton starters reached double digits led by Lauren Alwan (Winslow/Timber Creek) with a season-high 23 points plus eight rebounds and four assists. Freshman Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill/CH West) scored a career-high 16 points on 8-12 shooting and also added seven rebounds and six blocks.

Sara Farrell (Marlton/Cherokee) contributed 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds while Lea Mendolla (Nutley/Mount St. Dominic) finished with 10 points and a career-high three assists. Mendolla hit Stockton's only two three-pointers in the game. Jazmin Palma (North Bergen/North Bergen) dished a career-high six assists and swiped a team-leading four steals.

The first half belonged to Alwan as she poured in 17 points followed by Mendolla with 10. Williams scored four early markers to spark Stockton to an 8-0 lead in the first two minutes. A jumper by Alwan made it 21-5 with six minutes gone and the Ospreys never looked back. The advantage ballooned to as much as 24 points late in the half before Stockton settled for a 48-25 lead after Farrell closed the first half scoring by sinking a jumper with nine seconds left.

In the second half, the margin peaked at 26 on an Alwan free throw with 12:58 on the clock that gave the Ospreys an insurmountable 55-29 lead. Stockton scored just 11 points in the next 12 minutes as Rowan closed the gap to 66-55 in the final minute. The Ospreys then clinched the 71-55 win by scoring the last five points of the game on two Palma free throws, a Farrell layup and an Alwan foul shot.

Stockton will return home to host Rutgers-Newark in an NJAC game on Saturday afternoon at 1 pm.
