BoxscoreGalloway, NJ – Stockton University (2-6) rallied from an early 2-0 deficit and snapped a four-game losing streak with a 5-3 victory over Johns Hopkins (4-5) on Thursday night.
Alicia Belko (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) and
Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) scored two goals apiece for the Ospreys in a game played in a steady, driving rain.
The Blue Jays tallied the first two goals of the contest, one each by Kiana Duncan and Megan Ophel in the first 16 minutes of play for a 2-0 advantage. The Ospreys responded with a tip-in by
Sarah Fisher (Monroeville/Woodstown) at the left post with 40 seconds left in the half to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Sarah Gawrysiak (Haddon Twp./Haddon Twp.) assisted on the goal.
Stockton knotted the game at 2-2 when Belko scored on her own rebound 6:30 into the second half to give the Ospreys life. Stockton got a huge lift when goalkeeper
Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton) stopped a penalty stroke to keep the contest tied at 2-2. Stockton then reeled off the next three goals to take a 5-2 lead.
Two penalty-stroke tallies by Massa sandwiched another Belko marker made it a three-goal margin at 5-2 with 10:01 remaining.
Leah Davies (Ocean City/Ocean City) fed a pass to Belko that she tipped in at the post for her second counter of the night. An unassisted goal by the Blue Jays Morgan Pothast with 4:56 to play set the final score at 5-3 in the Ospreys' favor.
Sorochynskyj kicked out six shots for the Ospreys, earning her second win of the season. Greta Helvie made seven saves for the Blue Jays and Shannon Cosgrove made a defensive save as well.
Stockton's next game will be at home on Saturday when #1 The College of New Jersey, the defending national champion, visits Galloway for an NJAC contest at 1 pm.
