Stockton Downed by Kean, 6-2

Boxscore

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (2-9, 0-3 NJAC) was outscored 6-2 by Kean University (11-3, 1-2) in a battle between two teams each looking for their first conference win. Grace Kinney (Brigantine/GCIT) and Laura Olbrich (Pittsgrove/A.P. Schalick) each scored their second goal of the season for the Ospreys, but they could not overcome an early deficit against the Cougars.

Kean's Krista LaMaina, Teresa Carr and Marissa Robinson scored in the first 13 minutes of the game to put Stockton behind 3-0. The Osprey defense stiffened from there and did not allow a goal for the rest of the half. Stockton nearly got one back on a blast by Sarah Gawrysiak (Haddon Twp./Haddon Twp.) late in the stanza but the try was denied by Shauna LaMaina with a defensive save.

The Cougars struck quickly again in the second half as Krista LaMaina and Raykena Brown scored in the first 10 minutes of the period. Stockton later got on the board with 11:11 remaining as Kinney potted her own rebound to make it 5-1. The goal snapped a 208-minute scoreless drought for the Ospreys.

Brown tallied her second of the game for the Cougars with 4:53 remaining but Olbrich responded 1:20 later to close the scoring at 6-2 with a nice redirection through the five-hole off a pass by Kellie Brining (Cherry Hill/CH West), who notched the assist.

The Ospreys were on the wrong end of a 16-9 total in shots and a 12-7 count in penalty corners. Gawrysiak topped the team with four shots. Stockton goalkeeper Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton) finished with 10 saves, reaching double figures for the fourth time this season. Kean goalie Katie DiCarlo earned the win with one stop in 66:29 played.

Stockton will begin a five-game road trip on Tuesday when the Ospreys visit DeSales University for a 4 p.m. game.
