Stockton Ties Rutgers-Newark 1-1

Newark, NJ - Stockton University (8-2-4, 0-1-4 NJAC) played to a 1-1 tie in an NJAC road game at Rutgers-Newark (11-3-1, 2-2-1) on Saturday night. Lindsey Thomas (Swedesboro/Kingsway) scored the Ospreys' goal late in the first half, assisted by Alexa Fama (Linwood/Mainland). Stockton goalkeeper Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.) made one save in the game. With its fourth deadlock of the year, this Stockton team tied the school record for ties in a season that was set in 2011.

Stockton took the lead in the 27th minute. Fama chased down a long ball along the sideline and crossed it to Thomas, who potted her fourth goal of the year to put the Ospreys on top 1-0. The lead lasted until late in the first half when Sara Corson scored the tying goal for Rutgers-Newark with just 2:34 left before halftime.

Chelsea James (Howell/Howell) nearly gave Stockton the lead again in the 77th minute on a shot that hit the post. Neither team registered a shot in the first overtime. Stockton fired the only two attempts in the second OT but one was saved and one missed high.

For the game, the Ospreys outshot Rutgers-Newark 11-7 and had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.Tjhomas led the Ospreys and tied with Corson for game-high honors with three shots. The 1-1 tie was Stockton's fourth deadlock in the last seven games.

Stockton returns home to host CCNY in a non-conference game on Monday at 4 p.m.
