Stockton Shuts Out Rival Rowan 2-0

Glassboro, NJ – Stockton University (10-2-4, 1-1-4 NJAC) earned its first conference win of the season by dealing South Jersey rival Rowan University (8-2-2, 3-1-2) its first loss in league play, 2-0. Freshman Abigayle Musto (Wall Twp./Wall) led the Ospreys to victory with a goal and an assist. Marissa Bruno (Toms River/TR East) contributed an insurance goal in the second half.
 
Stockton struck quickly as Musto gave the Ospreys a 1-0 lead just 7:31 into the game with assists by Adrianna Boucher (Hamilton/Steinert) and Lindsey Thomas (Swedesboro/Kingsway). Boucher started the play with a corner kick that Thomas flicked to Musto, who headed the ball home for her fourth goal of the season.
 
Stockton netted its second goal with 13:37 gone in the second half. A Rowan foul set the stage for the Ospreys to score on the restart. Musto fed Bruno, whose shot found the net for her second marker of the year to make it 2-0 and end the scoring in the game.
 
Despite being outshot 11-4, Stockton capitalized on its opportunities and played the lockdown defense that has been the team's staple this season. Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.) made six saves, three in each half, for her eighth shutout of the season. Pallante's latest shutout streak has now reached 182 minutes.
 
Stockton will continue a four-game road trip with an NJAC match at New Jersey City on Saturday at 1 p.m.
