BoxscoreGalloway, NJ – Stockton University (14-3-1, 6-1-1 NJAC) scored two goals 1:53 apart in the second half and went on to a 2-0 victory over 12th-ranked Kean University (14-4, 5-3). The win moved the Ospreys into second place in the NJAC and extended their unbeaten streak to eight (7-0-1).
Anthony Colofranson (Woodbury Hts./Gateway) and
Ian Carmelia (Mt. Holly/Rancocas Valley) each scored on headers on set pieces, both assisted by
Bobby Spracklin (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley).
Following a Kean foul, Spracklin served a free kick into the box and Colofranson headed it home at 61:16 for his team-high 14th goal of the season. The Ospreys struck again less than two minutes later. Spracklin lofted a corner kick that sailed wide of the penalty area and drifted toward Carmelia. From 25 yards out, Carmelia headed the ball into the box, where it found its way through a crowd of players and trickled untouched into the net for an unlikely insurance goal.
Stockton goalkeeper
Bobby Varga (Toms River/TR East) moved into third place in school history with his 20th career shutout. Varga made three saves in the game and notched his eighth shutout of the year. With 15 minutes gone, he punched a header by Sev Kherlopian over the crossbar and then stopped another header on the ensuing corner kick. Varga's final save came on a harmless shot in the closing seconds.
Kean starter Chidi Iloka made four saves in 69:09 before giving way to Brad Watkins, who did not face a shot on goal in the last 20:51. Stockton outshot the Cougars 16-3 in the game.
Stockton will conclude the regular season with an NJAC game at Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The NJAC tournament begins on October 31 but Stockton is in position to earn a first-round bye if the team can hold onto second place in the standings.
