BoxscoreCamden, NJ – #14 Stockton University (14-4-1, 6-2-1 NJAC) saw their eight-game unbeaten streak come to a halt as they dropped their final regular-season match of the season to Rutgers-Camden (11-7-1, 6-3 NJAC) by a 2-0 final on Thursday night. The Ospreys made their first appearance of the season in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll this week with a ranking of 14th in the nation.
After a scoreless first half that saw the Scarlet Raptors hold a 7-2 advantage on shots, the Ospreys rebounded with eight attempts of their own to just three for Rutgers-Camden in the second stanza. Two goals 5:07 apart in the second half were the difference in the game. Mike Ryan scored at 70:00 then teammate Shane Guyer gave the Scarlet Raptors the insurance tally 5:07 after for the 2-0 final score.
The teams fired 10 shots each with
Chimaobi Ikwuagwu (Camden, DE/Caesar Rodney) and
Jeff Morgan (Sicklerville/Timber Creek) the only Ospreys to get shots on net during the game. Stockton goalkeeper
Bobby Varga (Toms River/TR East) made two saves in taking the loss. James Brett picked up the win for Rutgers-Camden, also kicking out two shots.
Stockton, the number two seed for the NJAC tournament, will have a bye until next Wednesday when the Ospreys will host the semifinal match at 7 p.m. against an opponent yet to be determined.
