BoxscoreGlassboro, NJ – Stockton University (12-3-7) saw its quest for a berth in the NJAC championship game denied with 1-0 setback to #22 Rowan University (12-2-2) in the conference tournament semifinals. The defeat also snapped Stockton's nine-game unbeaten streak and was the team's first loss since October 3.
The Ospreys were outshot 12-2 but
Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.), the NJAC Goalkeeper of the Year and NJAC Co-Rookie of the Year, gave her team a chance with seven saves.
Pallante made all seven of her saves, four in the first half and three in the second, to keep the game scoreless until the last seven minutes. Rowan's Melissa Kelly broke through for the game-winner with just 6:25 left in regulation. The goal was the first allowed by Pallante in 316 minutes.
Adrianna Boucher (Hamilton/Steinert) and
Abigayle Musto (Wall Twp./Wall) each registered a shot on goal but both were stopped by Rowan goalie Shelby Money. The Ospreys also tried four corner kicks, however they were unable to convert. Stockton, which had defeated Rowan 2-0 on October 14, was shut out for the sixth time this season.
Stockton is likely to be invited to play in the ECAC Metro tournament next week. The tournament field will be announced on Monday, November 9 and play begins on Wednesday, November 11.
