BoxscoreFrederick, MD – Stockton University (7-2) broke open a close game in the second half and extended its winning streak to four with a 68-57 victory over Gettysburg College (7-3) in the first round of the Rotary of Frederick Holiday Classic at Hood College.
Armin Cane (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) went 4-8 from three-point range and scored a game-high 20 points.
Jaymere Hadden (Millville/Millville) poured in 17 points and swiped a game-high five steals.
Maurice Hart (Asbury Park/Asbury Park) hit double figures with 10 points and grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Stockton scored 25 points off 22 Gettysburg turnovers.
The first half was tight, with five lead changes in the first 10:19. Cane scored eight straight Stockton points to ignite a 17-7 run that gave the Ospreys the largest lead of the first half at 30-21. Gettysburg responded with a 13-4 spurt to tie the game 34-34 at intermission. The Bullets shot 57.1 percent from the floor but Cane led everyone with 15 first-half points.
The beginning of the second half mirrored the first before Stockton took the lead for good at 49-47 on a three-pointer by Cane that was the sixth lead change in eight minutes. The Ospreys reeled off 15 straight points, the last nine by Hadden, for a 61-47 advantage with 5:11 to play. Stockton led by at least 10 the rest of the way for the 68-57 triumph. They shot 58.3 percent (14-24) from the floor in the second half.
Stockton will face either Hood or Chatham tomorrow at 3 p.m. in the championship game of the Rotary of Frederick Holiday Classic.
