BoxscoreFrederick, MD – Stockton University (8-2) scored 13 unanswered points in overtime and won the Rotary of Frederick Holiday Classic with a 73-64 victory over host Hood College (7-3).
Armin Cane (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) was named tournament MVP after leading the Ospreys to their fifth straight win with 22 points and seven rebounds.
Jaymere Hadden (Millville/Millville) scored 14 points in the win and joined Cane on the All-Tournament Team.
Maurice Hart (Asbury Park/Asbury Park) recorded a double-double of 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Marcus Harmon (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.) also hit double digits with 11 points. After shooting just 31 percent in the second half, the Ospreys went 4-5 from the floor (80%) in overtime.
Stockton trailed 58-49 with 5:19 to play but went on a 10-1 run capped by a tip-in from Hart to tie the game at 59 with 51 seconds remaining in the second half. The Ospreys then survived two missed shots by Hood in the last 22 seconds and the game went to overtime.
After Hood opened the OT with a three-pointer, Stockton reeled off the next 13 points, with the first eight scored by Harmon on a layup and two three-pointers, for a 72-62 lead that on the way to the 73-64 triumph. The Ospreys outscored Hood 14-5 in the extra period.
Earlier, Cane and
Zavon Johnson (Trenton/West Windsor Plainsboro South) each sank two treys during a 13-1 run that gave Stockton a 34-22 lead late in the first half before Hood closed within 36-30 at the break. The lead changed five times in the second half before the Ospreys pulled away in overtime for their fifth consecutive triumph.
Stockton will break for the holidays before heading to DeSales University for the Al Senavitis Tournament, which the Ospreys will open with a game against Alvernia on January 2 at 4 p.m.
