BoxscoreGalloway, NJ – Stockton University (3-2, 1-1 NJAC) saw their three-game win streak snapped as The College of New Jersey (4-3, 2-1 NJAC) topped the Ospreys 76-70 on Wednesday night. Stockton rallied in the second half but could not overcome 54.8% (23-42) shooting by the Lions.
Jaymere Hadden (Millville/Millville) led the Ospreys with 23 points and eight rebounds on the evening.
Stockton jumped out to an 11-3 lead to start the game but the Lions answered with 11 straight points to take a 14-11 advantage with 10:50 to play in the first half. Hadden made a foul shot to tie the game at 16-16 before TCNJ put some distance between the two teams. The Lions stretched the lead to as many as 14 before
Armin Cane (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the TCNJ lead to 41-30 at the break.
Stockton fell behind 46-32 three minutes into the second half but roared back to within 46-39 with seven straight points including six in a row by Hadden. After the Lions opened up a 51-39 lead, Stockton heated up from beyond the arc. The Ospreys hit four three-pointers, two by
Marcus Harmon (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.), during a 16-5 run that brought Stockton within one at 56-55 with 7:35 to play.
That was as close as the Ospreys would come as TCNJ scored the next eight points to make it 64-55 with 5:32 on the clock. Stockton was unable to get its deficit under four points the rest of the way as the Lions went 10-11 at the line down the stretch to deal the Ospreys the 76-70 setback.
In addition to his 23 markers and eight boards, Hadden also pilfered a game-high four steals. Harmon added 13 points as the only other Osprey to hit double figures. Freshman
Kashaun Barnes (Toms River/Manchester Twp.) gave Stockton a lift off the bench with nine points in just seven minutes played.
Maurice Hart (Asbury Park/Asbury Park) and
Onnir Kendall (Philadelphia, PA/Williamstown) dished four assists each to lead the team.
For the Lions, Eric Murdock, Jr. led five players in double figures with a game-high 24 points, including a perfect 10-10 from the line. Eric Klacik added 11 points and game-high seven assists while teammates Jordan Glover, Elias Bermudez and Steven Kelly chipped with 10 markers each. Bermudez led all players with 12 rebounds to complete a double-double.
Stockton will travel to William Paterson on Saturday for their next game. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
