BoxscoreWayne, NJ – Stockton University (4-2, 2-1 NJAC) prevailed 64-53 in an NJAC road game at William Paterson (4-4, 0-3) during which the Ospreys led throughout but rarely by double digits.
Armin Cane (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) led a balanced Stockton attack with 18 points and nine rebounds, just one off his career high on the glass.
Marcus Harmon (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.) went 7-10 from the floor and finished with 15 points while
Jaymere Hadden (Millville/Millville) tossed in 13 markers for the Ospreys.
Tom Catanoso (Cape May CH/Middle Twp.) played a strong all-around game, tallying eight points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Trailing 5-3 early, Stockton surged ahead with a 16-4 run that featured five points apiece by Cane and Hadden plus four from Harmon. The spurt ended with the Ospreys on top 19-9. William Paterson rallied to tie the game at 25 before
Maurice Hart (Asbury Park/Asbury Park) scored the last five points of the half on a dunk and three-pointer to give Stockton a 30-25 edge at the break. Five Ospreys scored between five and seven points in the half.
In the second half, William Paterson briefly led 35-34 before Stockton took control with a 13-2 run as Cane exploded for 10 points in less than four minutes. The Pioneers' whittled Stockton's 47-37 lead down to three with 5:27 on the clock but went 0-5 from the floor as the Ospreys closed the game with a 9-1 spurt to win 64-53.
Stockton will play two NJAC games at home next week, hosting Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, December 9 at 8 p.m. and Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, December 12 at 3 p.m.
