#17 Stockton Downed by Ramapo Again, 52-46

Boxscore

Mahwah, NJ – #17 Richard Stockton (18-4, 12-3 NJAC) finished with season lows in points and field goal percentage, resulting in a 52-46 defeat at Ramapo (13-9, 7-8) that was Stockton's second loss of the year to the Roadrunners. The Ospreys shot just 29 percent from the floor including a dismal 4-27 (14.8%) from three-point range and went only 6-12 (50%) at the free throw line. Armin Cane (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) finished with team highs of 13 points and five steals.

Cane sank two of the team's four three-pointers, with Tom Catanoso (Cape May CH/Middle Twp.) hitting the other two treys for six markers. Anthony Woodard (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) was the lone Stockton player to shoot well, going 5-6 for 11 points and grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. The rest of the Ospreys were just 13-56 from the field (23.2%). Stockton out-rebounded Ramapo 48-41 but was hampered by 19 turnovers which led to 17 Roadrunner points.

After falling behind 11-4, Stockton rallied with an 14-4 run that was fueled by Cane with two three-pointers and Myles Reuben (Edison/J.P. Stevens) with all five of his points. The resulting 18-15 lead proved to be Stockton's largest of the game. The Ospreys scored just two points in the last eight minutes of the first half as Ramapo regained the edge 23-20 at the break. Cane and Reuben combined for 13 of Stockton's 20 markers with eight and five respectively.

The offensive woes continued for the Ospreys in the second half as a Cane free throw was their only point in the first seven minutes. The deficit reached 11 before Stockton came to life with a 14-4 spurt that both began and ended with a three-pointer by Catanoso and also included four points by Cane. The outburst brought the Ospreys within 36-35 with 9:19 remaining.

The momentum evaporated as Stockton scored just four points in the next four minutes and fell behind 44-39. After trailing by six, the Ospreys made one last effort to come back, cutting the margin to two (48-46) on a Woodard jumper with 1:39 to play. Stockton then missed its last eight field goal attempts as the last-ditch try fizzled in the 52-46 defeat. Two of the team's four losses this season have come against Ramapo.

Stockton will be back in action on Wednesday, February 11 when the Ospreys host New Jersey City at 8 pm.
