Game 2Galloway, NY – Stockton University (10-3, 0-2 NJAC) opened conference play with a pair of defeats to Ramapo (9-5, 2-0) that ended an eight-game winning streak. The Ospreys were edged 6-4 in nine innings in the first game and fell 7-2 in the second game. Stockton managed just 10 hits in 16 innings on the day, with
Dominique Dorris (Mantua/Clearview) knocking a team-high three.

In the first game,
Samantha Shockey (Deptford/Deptford) went 2-4 with a double, run and an RBI. Shockey singled and later scored on a Ramapo error in the bottom of the first but the Roadrunners came back with a run in the top of the third for a 1-1 tie. The Ospreys regained the lead in the bottom half, scoring once on an RBI double by Shockey and then on another Ramapo error for a 3-1 lead. The Roadrunners tied the game with two runs in the fifth stanza and the game went to extra innings at 3-3.

Stockton nearly won the game in the bottom of the eighth but Ramapo's Kim LaPenta made a diving catch on a blooper by Shockey to prevent the winning run from scoring. Ramapo took its first lead with three runs on three hits and an error in the top of the ninth.

Allyson Kuhn (Leesburg, VA/Tuscarora) delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth that was her first career hit but Stockton could not rally and fell 6-4. LaPenta went 2-4 with two doubles and a run scored while Melanie Walling was 2-4 with two RBI for Ramapo.

In the nightcap, Dorris went 2-3 with two RBI while
Marisa Ortiz (Manchester/Manchester Twp.) doubled and scored but Stockton again mustered just five hits. Defensively, the Ospreys allowed three unearned runs as a result of three errors.

Ramapo took an early 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of the first before Dorris stroked an RBI single in the third frame for a 1-1 tie. The Roadrunners added single tallies in the fourth and fifth innings for a 3-1 lead. Dorris came through again in the bottom of the fifth as she followed a double by Ortiz with an RBI single to make it 3-2 but Stockton could get no closer.

Ramapo scored three times in the sixth inning to break the game open and added one run in the seventh to complete the sweep of the Ospreys 7-2. Melissa Moreno went 4-5 with a double, RBI and a run while Danielle Saporito contributed two hits for the Roadrunners.

Stockton will be back in action on Tuesday for an NJAC doubleheader at Rutgers-Camden at 3 pm.
