Boxscore

Union, NJ – Stockton University (9-4, 2-2 Skyline) broke open a close game by scoring five consecutive goals and defeated Kean University (8-6, 3-1) 12-9 in a Skyline Conference road game. Mike Caposella (Wayne/DePaul Catholic) scored a game-high four goals and Nick Bologno (Glen Gardner/North Hunterdon) led all players with seven points on two goals and five assists.  The victory snapped a seven-game losing streak against Kean.

Caposella's first goal of the night came just 56 seconds after Kean had taken a 1-0 lead and Max Becker (Oak Ridge/Jefferson Twp.) scored next to put Stockton on top 2-1. The Cougars struck twice in the last four minutes of the first quarter to pull ahead 3-2 after one period.

Consecutive tallies by Andrew Clarkson (Marlton/Cherokee) and James O'Donnell (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) put the Ospreys back in front 4-3 but Kean answered for a 4-4 tie. Caposella gave Stockton the lead for good at 5-4 with 57 seconds left in the first half. His marker ignited a five-goal outburst that carried over into the second half.

Vincent Manasia (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) needed 1:23 into the third quarter to score and Bologno followed 16 seconds later to increase the lead to 7-4. Caposella and Bologno potted goals later in the quarter for a 9-4 advantage before the Ospreys yielded their first goal in over 15 minutes and settled for a 9-5 lead after three periods.

Kean pulled within 9-7 with 5:06 to play but Caposella and Joseph DiBabbo (Sewell/Clearview) ended the threat with back-to-back goals. The Cougars closed to 11-9 in the last minute before Zach Aho (Shamong/Seneca) clinched the 12-9 triumph by scoring with 11 seconds to play.

Stockton goalkeeper Eric Leonard (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) earned the win with nine saves and Erik Beck (Marlton/Cherokee) paced the defense with a game-high eight ground balls plus two caused turnovers.

Stockton will conclude a three-game road trip with a Skyline Conference game at Mount St. Vincent on Saturday at 3 pm.
