Game 1 /
Game 2 Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (14-11) saw their losing streak extend to five straight games as the Ospreys were swept in a non-conference doubleheader by scores of 3-0 and 2-1 to Stevens (17-6-1) on Thursday afternoon. Five different players had two hits each in the doubleheader but Stockton mustered just one run for their day.
Â
Game one saw Stockton held to just two safeties as they could not push a run across against Kayla Berardi for the Ducks in the 3-0 loss.
Marisa Ortiz (Manchester/Manchester Twp.) and
Dominique Dorris (Mantua/Clearview) were the only Ospreys with hits in the contest.
Â
Stockton opened up the nightcap by scoring their only run of the game in the bottom of the first. The Ospreys loaded the bases on three straight hits before a fielder's choice by Dorris and a throwing error allowed
Samantha Liepe (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) to cross the plate for the 1-0 lead.
Samantha Shockey (Deptford/Deptford) made the lead hold up in the circle, scattering five hits through six innings. Stockton threatened in the fifth and sixth innings but could not push across another marker.
Â
In the Ducks half of the seventh, Lauren Shirley gave Stevens the lead with a two-run homer
following an Osprey error for the 2-1 advantage. The Ospreys were able to get the possible tying run to third in their half of the seventh, but the rally ended to set the final at 2-1 in favor of the Ducks.
Â
Olivia Gemma gave up 10 hits but just the one run to pick up the win for Stevens. Shockey took the hard-luck loss giving up just six hits and one earned run, while striking out three. Liepe, Shockey and
Alison Waldron (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) each rapped two hits in the second game with Liepe scoring the lone Osprey run.
Â
Stockton will return to NJAC play on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Rutgers-Newark for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
