Game 2Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (14-13, 4-10 NJAC) was nipped 7-6 and 4-2 in a pair of close NJAC games at Rutgers-Newark (11-17, 3-11). The Ospreys had the lead in each game but could not hold off the Scarlet Raiders.
Marisa Ortiz (Manchester/Manchester Twp.) totaled five hits on the day, including four in the first game, but Stockton's losing streak reached seven.
Dominique Dorris (Mantua/Clearview) extended her hitting streak to nine with a double in each game.

In the opener, Ortiz went 4-4 and scored once while
Nicole Tomo (Cedar Grove/Cedar Grove) and
Samantha Shockey (Deptford/Deptford) knocked two hits apiece. Freshman
Hannah Bibeault (Hopatcong/Hopatcong) slugged her first career home run.

Stockton took a 4-0 lead with four runs in the third inning. Ortiz and Tomo singled and both scored on a two-run double by Dorris.
Brittany Ksiezopolski (Hillsborough/Hillsborough) singled in the other two runs. Rutgers-Newark answered with three runs in the bottom half to get within 4-3 and tied the game with one run in the fifth frame.

Samantha Liepe (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) led off the sixth inning with a pinch-hit double and Bibeault blasted her first college homer two batters later to put Stockton ahead 6-4. The Ospreys could not hold the lead as they committed two errors in the bottom of the sixth that combined with two Rutgers-Newark hits for three unearned runs that resulted in a 7-6 defeat.

 Stockton managed just six hits in the nightcap, one each by six different players. Dorris smacked her second double of the day and scored while Ortiz contributed a hit and a run and Shockey added a hit and an RBI.

Rutgers-Newark got on the board in the bottom of the first and the Ospreys answered with a run in the top of the second as Dorris led off with a double and later scored on an error. The next inning, Ortiz singled and came home on a two-out RBI single by Shockey for a 2-1 Stockton lead. Rutgers-Newark overtook the Ospreys with three runs on five hits in the bottom of the third for a 4-2 count. Stockton tallied just two hits in the last four innings and suffered its seventh consecutive loss.

The Ospreys will return home to host Alvernia in a rescheduled non-conference doubleheader tomorrow at noon.
