Game 1 /
Game 2Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (15-14) concluded a busy stretch of four doubleheaders in five days by splitting a non-conference twinbill with Alvernia (15-13). The Ospreys snapped a seven-game losing streak by winning the opener 6-1 but they could not sustain the momentum and dropped the nightcap 6-0.
Nicole Tomo (Cedar Grove/Cedar Grove) totaled a team-high four hits on the day.
Â
Stockton pounded out 16 hits in the first game, led by Tomo,
Marisa Ortiz (Manchester/Manchester Twp.),
Holly Arentowicz (Roxbury/Roxbury) and
Danielle Lugo (Vineland/Vineland) with three apiece. Lugo added two RBI and a run while Tomo and Ortiz each tallied one RBI and Arentowicz doubled and scored.
Brittany Ksiezopolski (Hillsborough/Hillsborough) allowed just one run on six hits and tied her season high with nine strikeouts to earn the win.
Â
The Ospreys started the scoring in the bottom of the second when RBI singles by Lugo and Tomo gave them a 2-0 lead. Alvernia halved the margin to 2-1 on a RBI hit by Aly Shilling in the top of the fourth. Stockton came right back with two runs in the bottom half.
Gianna Cuffari (Cedar Grove/Cedar Grove) led off with a triple and Lugo followed with an RBI single. Ortiz later plated Lugo with an RBI single to make it 4-1.
Â

Dominique Dorris (Mantua/Clearview) and scored when Cuffari rapped an RBI single. Dorris later scored the final run on an RBI single by
Catherine Wunder (Clinton/North Hunterdon).
Â
After 16 hits in the first game, the Stockton bats went silent in the second contest as the team mustered only four hits. Alvernia seized control right at the outset, scoring four runs, two unearned, in the top of the first. Amanda Turner provided the big blow with a two-run double. The Crusaders added two runs on RBI doubles by Brianna DePriest and Felicia McKenna in the second inning to end the scoring in the game.
Â
The first nine Ospreys were retired in order before Tomo and Cuffari singled to open the bottom of the fourth. A double play thwarted a chance for a big inning though. Dorris singled with two outs but Stockton left the bases loaded and did not score. A seventh-inning single by Dorris was the team's only hit over the last three innings.
Â
Lefty
Allyson Kuhn (Leesburg, VA/Tuscarora) came on in relief and pitched 5.2 scoreless innings with a career-high five strikeouts but the damage had already been done. The Ospreys were shut out for the fourth time this season in the 6-0 defeat.
