Stockton Downed 5-1 by New Jersey City

Boxscore

Jersey City, NJ – Stockton University (14-14, 6-10 NJAC) suffered a 5-1 defeat to New Jersey City (13-19, 5-11) in the second game of the NJAC home-and-home series between the teams. Each team registered seven hits but the Ospreys left 11 runners on base. Keith Tappert (Toms River/TR East) and Mark Jankowski (Sewell/Washington Twp) each went 2-4, with Tappert scoring once and Jankowski doubling once.

New Jersey City jumped on Stockton with three runs on three hits and two walks in the bottom of the first and the Ospreys never recovered. Stockton later faced a 4-0 deficit after six innings. Tappert led off the seventh frame with a single and scored on an RBI single by Erik Danser (Marlton/Cherokee) two batters later. The Ospreys had a chance for more but left the bases loaded.

The Gothic Knights scored their last run in the bottom of the seventh. Stockton loaded the bases again with one out in the eighth. Brett Solomen (Harrison Twp./Clearview) and George Eisenhart (Harrison Twp./Clearview) each singled to extend their reached-base streaks to 28 games apiece. After a flyout, Jankowski singled to fill the sacks, but a lineout and a strikeout prevented the Ospreys from scoring and they fell 5-1.

Stockton will conclude the regular season with an NJAC doubleheader at Rutgers-Newark tomorrow at 11:30 am. The Ospreys need to win both games and have The College of New Jersey lose twice to Montclair State to create a tie for the final NJAC playoff spot, which then would be determined by tiebreakers.
