Boxscore

Galloway, NJ – No. 2 seed Stockton University (12-4) produced a big second quarter and advanced to the Skyline Conference tournament final with a 17-11 win over No. 3 seed Kean Cougars (9-8) on Wednesday night. The victory gave the Ospreys their first conference tournament victory ever. Nick Bologno (Glen Gardner/North Hunterdon) led the offensive assault with two goals and seven assists for nine points on the night.

Stockton fell behind by a 3-1 margin in the first seven minutes before they righted the ship. Guy Loggi (Somers Point/Mainland), Vincent Manasia (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) and Andrew Clarkson (Marlton/Cherokee) scored three straight goals to put Stockton up 4-3 at the end of the first period. Bologno assisted on Clarkson's goal and in doing so, set the Stockton record for assists in a season with his 43rd helper of the year.

The Ospreys turned the game in their favor for good by tallying six more goals in the second period.  Mike Caposella (Wayne/DePaul Catholic) hit the net three times, Manasia added two more and Eugene Isola (Monroe Twp./CBA) potted an unassisted tally. Bologno assisted on four of the goals and the Ospreys took a 10-5 lead into the half.

The teams each scored two goals in the third quarter, with Clarkson and Bologno tallying for the Ospreys, who led 12-7 after three. Stockton put the game away in a high-scoring final stanza. Two goals by Manasia and one each by Caposella, Loggi and James O'Donnell (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) offset four scores by the Cougars to set the final at 17-11 in favor of Stockton. Manasia's first goal of the period was his 100th career goal in three seasons at Stockton.

In addition to Bologno's big night, Manasia led all goal scorers with five tallies followed by Caposella with four markers. Loggi and Clarkson chipped in with two goals each. Stockton's defense forced 21 Cougar turnovers in front of goalie Eric Leonard (Mount Laurel/Lenape) who made eight saves in earning his 11th win of the season.

Anthony Perotta scored two goals and added two assists to lead the Cougars' attack. Goalkeeper Maxwell Fields, who took the loss, kicked out 15 shots in net.

Stockton will travel to No. 1 seed Montclair State for the Skyline Conference championship game on Saturday at 1 pm. The Red Hawks edged Stockton 9-7 in a regular season matchup on April 1. The winner of Saturday's game receives an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
