BoxscoreGalloway, NJ – Stockton University (11-6, 3-3 NJAC) rallied from four runs down but came up on the short end of a 7-6 defeat in 10 innings to The College of New Jersey (8-9, 1-3 NJAC) on Monday afternoon. The game was played after the two squads were rained out on Friday.
Keith Tappert (Toms River/Toms River East) and
Dan Sweeney (Middletown/Middletown South) drove in two runs each in the game for Stockton.

After a scoreless first three innings, TCNJ broke through with three runs on three hits in their half of the fourth frame. The Ospreys plated an unearned run to cut the advantage to 3-1 after four. The Lions responded with two more markers in the fifth inning to stretch the lead to 5-1 until the Ospreys' half of the eighth inning.

With the bases loaded, Sweeney smashed a double down the third base line, knocking in two to make it 5-3. One batter later, Tappert followed that up with a two-RBI single to tie the contest at 5-5. Neither team was able to break the deadlock in regulation and the game went to the extra frame. With two away, back-to-back doubles and an RBI single gave the Lions a 7-5 lead. Stockton scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 10th, but could not gain the tying run and fell 7-6.

In addition to the two RBI apiece by Tappert and Sweeney, each player added two hits.
Erik Danser (Marlton/Cherokee) and
Matt Mangarella (Milltown/Spotswood) also had two base knocks on the day as Stockton totaled 10 hits for the contest.
Mike Bergin (Middletown/Middletown South) started on the hill for the Ospreys, tossing 4.2 innings before being replaced by
Blaze Gaspari (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill East). Gaspari tossed 3.1 innings of two-hit, four-strikeout relief without allowing a run.
Kevin Buell (Ocean Twp./Ocean Twp.) threw the last two innings, suffering his second loss of the season.

Josh Limon had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBI to lead the Lions. Anthony Cocuzza and John Rizzi rapped out two hits each, with Cocuzza driving in two runs. Steven Volpe threw the first 7.1 innings before giving way to winning pitcher Eric Teesdale, who finished up. Teesdale gained his first win of the year in 2.2 innings of relief.

Stockton's next game will be a home matchup against Rutgers-Camden in an NJAC tilt on Thursday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
