Stockton Advances to ECAC Semifinals, 9-0

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (16-15), seeded  No. 6, kept their season alive as the Ospreys downed No. 3 seed Stevenson (20-20-2) with a 9-0 shutout on Wednesday afternoon. The game was the first round of the ECAC Southeast Tournament. Mike Bergin (Middletown/Middletown South) scattered seven hits and struck out 11 batters without allowing a walk in the complete game whitewash. It was the junior's first career complete game and shutout.   
 
Stockton opened the scoring in the first inning as Brett Solomen (Harrison Twp. /Clearview) singled, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch before George Eisenhart (Harrison Twp./Clearview) picked up the RBI single for the 1-0 lead. The Ospreys tacked on two more runs in the fourth frame on a Bryce DiPaola (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) RBI single and a Dan Sweeney (Middletown/Middletown South) RBI double to stretch their lead to 3-0.
 
Sweeney plated two more runs with a single in the sixth before Stockton put the game away with a four spot in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded, Solomen blasted a triple to right center to clear the bases for an 8-0 advantage. Eisenhart scored Solomen with another RBI single to close out the scoring at 9-0. Bergin took care of the last two innings to earn his fourth win of the season and help the Ospreys advance to the ECAC semifinals on Saturday.
 
Sweeney led the 13-hit Osprey attack with four hits and knocked in three runs. Mark Jankowski (Sewell/Washington Twp.) added three hits on the afternoon, including his 100th career hit at Stockton. Solomen and Eisenhart each rapped two hits, with Solomen picking up three RBI and swiping two bases. Eisenhart also drove in two runs, giving him a team-leading 26 RBI on the season.
 
John D'Aquanno led the Mustangs with two hits. Dan Williams tossed the first five innings on the hill, striking out three in the loss.
 
Stockton will travel to McDaniel College in Westminster, MD to take on Widener University on Saturday. Widener is the No. 2 seed for the ECAC tournament. Game time is scheduled for 4pm.
