Stockton Drops Opener 4-2 to Arcadia

Boxscore

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (0-1) dropped their opener for the 2015 season as they were defeated by Arcadia University (1-0) by a 4-2 final on Tuesday afternoon. The Ospreys fell behind 3-0 in the first half but rallied to make it a contest during the second stanza. Leah Davies (Ocean City/Ocean City) tallied her first career goal and as Kellie Brining (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill West) also scored for the home squad.

The Knights opened up a 3-0 lead during the first half of play, during which they outshot the Ospreys 7-4 and notched a 7-4 advantage on corners. Rachel Longenecker and Debbie Wolfe accounted for a goal and assist apiece in the first half for Arcadia.

The second half was dominated by Stockton in the early going as Brining snapped off a high wrist shot for the team's first goal of the season to make it 3-1 just 1:41 into the stanza. Sarah Gawrysiak (Haddon Twp./Haddon Twp.) picked up the assist.

The Ospreys continued to put pressure on the Knights and made it pay off seven minutes later. Davies tipped in a blast from Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) for her first career tally and cut the margin to 3-2. Unfortunately, Stockton could get no closer as Arcadia potted an insurance goal by Allie Hines midway through the half to set the final score at 4-2.

Sophomore Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton) made seven saves in her debut in net for Stockton after missing last season due to injury. Her counterpart Brittany Hodson made 10 saves including seven in the second half for the Knights in the victory.

Stockton's next contest will be another home match, as Eastern University visits the Ospreys on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for noon.
