BoxscoreGalloway, NJ –Stockton University (0-2) held firm defensively but could not generate much offense as they were defeated by Eastern University (1-1) by a 2-0 score on Saturday afternoon. Eastern outshot the Ospreys 22-11 for the game and held a 15-7 advantage on corners for the contest.
The young Ospreys were led by sophomore goalkeeper
Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton) who made a career-high 15 saves, with 11 coming in the first half. Eagles' goalkeeper Nicole Berger earned her first win and first shutout of the season, making seven saves in the game.
After a scoreless first half, the Eagles broke into the scoring column 2:02 into the second half as Hayley Williams scored on a penalty stroke for her first tally of the season and a 1-0 lead. Lauren Gay capped off the scoring for the day when she sent a shot from near the top of the circle that found its way past Sorochynskyj at 63:01 to set the final score at 2-0.
Sarah Gawrysiak (Haddon Twp./Haddon Twp.) led Stockton with three shots, two being on net.
Grace Kinney (Brigantine/GCIT) and
Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown both fired two attempts on net, with Massa picking up a defensive save in the game as well.
Gay led all players with six shots, all on net, while her Eagles teammate Danielle Frasca squeezed off five attempts. Ashley Rowe was credited with a defensive save for Eastern.
Stockton will play their first road game on Thursday, September 10 at Swarthmore. Game time is scheduled for 4 pm.
