Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (3-1) suffered its first defeat of the season as the Ospreys fell to unbeaten Rensselaer (4-0) 2-1 in the first game of the Stockton Seashore Classic. Clevon McPherson (Kingston, JAM/Pemberton) scored the lone goal for the Ospreys on a penalty kick.
 
With just over 40 minutes gone in the first half, Stockton drew a foul in the box and McPherson blasted the penalty kick into the lower left corner for his second goal of the season. The tally gave the Ospreys a 1-0 lead that lasted through halftime.
 
Twelve minutes into the second half, McPherson received a red card for an illegal tackle. Trevor McCaughey sent the ensuing free kick into the top right corner of the goal for a 1-1 tie. Eight minutes later, Stockton fell behind 2-1 when Paul Lentine headed a corner kick that deflected off an Osprey defender and into the net.
 
Despite playing a man short for the last 33 minutes, Stockton generated a few scoring chances. Jeff Morgan (Sicklerville/Timber Creek) and Alex Kourahanis (Sicklerville/Timber Creek) each pumped a shot on goal from inside the box but both were denied by Rensselaer goalkeeper Ryan Nealon for two of his three saves in the game.
 
The Seashore Classic will continue tomorrow with Rensselaer facing William Paterson at 3 pm followed by Stockton vs. Mary Washington at 5:30 pm.
