BoxscoreGalloway, NJ – Stockton University (4-1) rebounded from their first defeat of the season with a solid 3-0 victory over previously-unbeaten Mary Washington (5-1) on Saturday evening. The game was the finale of the two-day Seashore Classic held at G. Larry James Stadium.
Anthony Colofranson (Woodbury Heights/Gateway) led the way for the Ospreys by netting his first two goals of the season.
Colofranson snapped the scoreless contest in the first half when he broke behind the defense and took a
Bobby Spracklin (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) pass. His blast hit just under the cross bar and bounced in for his first goal of the year at 26:30. Stockton held that advantage until just 30 seconds remained in the first stanza.
Jeff Tanski (Sicklerville/Timber Creek) came out of a scrum in front of the Eagles net and scored his first career goal on a bicycle kick to give the Ospreys a 2-0 lead at the break.
Stockton clamped down on defense for the rest of the contest, allowing just five shots by Mary Washington in the second half. The Eagles' best opportunity came with just over 24 minutes remaining as Jacob Burke fired a point blank shot that Ospreys' netminder
Bobby Varga (Toms River/TR East) stopped to keep the two-goal advantage. Colofranson ended the scoring with just 37 seconds left, netting a header off a
Mike DeFeo (Sicklerville/Timber Creek) corner kick to set the final score at 3-0.
Varga stopped six shots for his second shutout and fourth win of the season for Stockton. His counterpart Matt Spencer kicked out three shots in taking his first loss of the year for Mary Washington. Both squads were credited with a team save as well. DeFeo was robbed by an Eagles' defender in the first half and
Jared Ruff (Delran/Delran) knocked away a Mary Washington scoring try in the second half.
Stockton will take to the road for their next contest when they face Purchase College on Wednesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm.
