Stockton Wins NJAC Opener 1-0 over Ramapo

Boxscore

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (6-1, 1-0 NJAC) opened up NJAC play for the 2015 season with a hard-fought 1-0 shutout victory over Ramapo (3-3-1, 0-1 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon. Anthony Colofranson (Woodbury Heights/Gateway) scored his fourth goal of the season at 52:24 of the second half and the Osprey defense made it stand up for the win. Colofranson now has goals in three consecutive games.

Neither team could push a marker in during the first half with chances hard to come by. Colofranson got off two good scoring opportunities for Stockton as did Ryan Campbell for the Roadrunners. Campbell came close to scoring as he hit the post then gathered his own rebound and was stopped by Bobby Varga (Toms River/Toms River East) to keep the contest scoreless through the first half.

Stockton came out with renewed vigor to start the second stanza and took the play to Ramapo. In the 52nd minute, Jared Ruff (Delran/Delran) gathered the ball near the Ramapo end line and sent a crossing pass to Colofranson in front of the net. Colofranson's tap-in gave the Ospreys the only goal they would need. The Roadrunners tried to push across the tying goal with a rally late in the contest, but to no avail as Stockton preserved the 1-0 shutout.

Varga kicked out six shots for his fifth win and third shutout of the season for Stockton. Matthew Hernandez made two saves in taking the loss for Ramapo.

Stockton will have a short turnaround for their next game. The Ospreys will host Delaware Valley on Monday at 7pm.
