BoxscoreGalloway, NJ –Stockton University (1-4) allowed two second-half goals and dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Alvernia (4-3) on Tuesday night.
Grace Kinney (Brigantine/GCIT) and
Sarah Gawrysiak (Haddon Twp./Haddon Twp.) scored their first markers of the year for the Ospreys.
The Ospreys got on the board in the fifth minute of play when Kinney tapped in a pass from
Leah Davies (Ocean City/Ocean City) to put Stockton up 1-0. Alvernia tied the game just over 10 minutes later on an unassisted goal by Andrea Wysocki. Gawrysiak gave Stockton a one-goal advantage again with 12:59 left in the first half when she blasted a shot from 20 yards out for the 2-1 lead.
The second stanza was a defensive affair until the 54:32 mark when Margaret Wentzel potted the tying goal on a breakaway. Wenzel struck again seven minutes later on another breakaway to give the Crusaders a 3-2 lead. Stockton had two late chances, one on a penalty corner and then on a shot by
Alicia Belko (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) with 1:20 remaining that was kicked out as Alvernia escaped with the win.
Stockton freshman goalkeeper
Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton) made eight saves for the Ospreys in the loss. Rebecca Brosious kicked out five shots in gaining her fourth win in net for Alvernia.
Stockton will play its first road game of the season on Friday when the Ospreys will visit #11 Skidmore in Saratoga, NY for a 4 pm matchup.
