BoxscoreSaratoga, NY – After playing five consecutive home games to begin the season, Stockton University (1-5) headed to upstate New York for its first road contest of the year. The long trip proved to be a difficult one as the Ospreys were overwhelmed 10-1 by #11 Skidmore (4-2).
Laura Olbrich (Pittsgrove/A.P. Schalick) scored her first goal of the season for Stockton. In addition to playing on the road for the first time, the Ospreys also faced a ranked opponent for the first time this season.
Two goals by Skidmore's Dani DeGregory 1:55 apart put Stockton behind 2-0 in the first eight minutes of the game. Olbrich corralled a loose ball and fired a shot into the cage with 11:45 gone to get the Ospreys within 2-1. Olbrich became the sixth different Stockton player to score a goal this year. Skidmore later broke the game open with three tallies in a span of 2:07 and Stockton trailed 5-1 at the break.
The Thoroughbreds scored again 19 seconds into the second half and tacked on four more goals in the rest of the period for the 10-1 final score. Skidmore outshot Stockton 24-4, with four Ospreys registering one shot apiece. Starting goalkeeper
Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton) faced heavy pressure throughout and finished with 11 saves in 50:16 on the field. Freshman goalie
Courtney Birdsall (Bridgeton/Cumberland) made her college debut and recorded one save in the last 19:44.
Stockton will be on the road again on Tuesday for a night game at Widener at 7 pm.
