BoxscoreChester, PA –Stockton University (1-6) suffered a tough 2-1 defeat in overtime to Widener (5-3) on Tuesday night. Freshman
Sarah Fisher (Monroeville/Woodstown) scored her first career tally, for the lone Osprey marker in the game.
Stockton fell behind just 1:02 into the contest as Kayla Herr scored for Widener to make it 1-0. The Ospreys held a 5-2 advantage on penalty corners in the first half but could not convert the opportunities and trailed 1-0 at the break.
With 12:05 gone in the second half, Fisher took a feed from
Alicia Belko (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) and scored to knot the game at 1-1. Belko's assist was her first point of the season. The Ospreys were outshot 14-5 in regulation but hung tough on defense and kept the game at the deadlock, sending it to ovetime.
The Ospreys managed one shot by
Kellie Brining (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill West) in the overtime that was blocked. At the 4:24 mark of the extra frame, Kelly Rodgers converted a cross from Herr to end it at 2-1 in favor of Widener.
Stockton freshman goalkeeper
Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton) made nine saves for the Ospreys in the loss. Mikayla Ninos kicked out three Osprey shots in gaining the win in net for the Pride.
Stockton will return to Galloway for a two-game home stand beginning on Thursday when they host Johns Hopkins at 7 pm.
