Stockton Ties #25 Montclair State 0-0

Boxscore

Galloway, NJ –Stockton University (6-1-2, 0-0-2 NJAC) posted their second consecutive tie in NJAC play, this time a 0-0 contest against #25 Montclair State (6-1-1, 1-0-1 NJAC) on Wednesday night. The defensive struggle saw a combined nine shots on net in 110 minutes. The Ospreys extended their unbeaten streak to eight straight (6-0-2). The result was the sixth 0-0 tie and 13th overtime game in 37 meetings between Stockton and Montclair State.

The closest the Ospreys got to a goal in the first half was a Lauren Bowler (Little Silver/Red bank Regional) floater at 18:01 that Red Hawks' goalkeeper Molly Barrow tipped away. The Stockton defense led by Bowler, Karleigh Niedt (Jackson/Jackson Memorial), Marissa Bruno (Toms River/Toms River East) and Alexa Rubino (Voorhees/Eastern) held Montclair State to just one shot that sailed wide in the first half.

The second half was more of the same as both squads were stout defensively again. Adrianna Boucher (Hamilton/Steinert) was able to squeeze off two of her team-high four shots in rapid order that were blocked midway through the period before Chelsea James (Howell/Howell) fired a shot that was kicked away directly after. Rubino came up with a tremendous defensive stop on the following Red Hawk possession thwarting a potential breakaway to keep the game scoreless.

After neither team was able to get off a shot in the first extra period, the Red Hawks pressed the action in the final stanza with five shots including two on net. Shawna Grabowski was stopped by Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.) with 1:36 remaining for Montclair State before Boucher had one last opportunity with 27 seconds left, but was stopped by Barrow on a shot from the top of the box and the game ended in the 0-0 deadlock.

Pallante made four saves in 108:40 before leaving with an injury. Erin Kinneman (Aberdeen/Matawan Regional) finished up the last 1:20 without facing a shot for the combined shutout, the seventh for the Ospreys this season. Barrow kicked out five shots for the Red Hawks, earning her first solo shutout of the year.

Stockton will finish up their two-game homestand when they face Eastern in a non-conference match on Saturday at 2 pm.
