BoxscoreAllentown, PA – Stockton University (9-3) had its six-game winning streak snapped with an 83-76 setback to Berkeley College (NY) (9-1) in the championship game of the Al Senavitis Tournament at DeSales University. Five Ospreys scored in double figures, including
Armin Cane (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) and
Maurice Hart (Asbury Park/Asbury Park), who were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Marcus Harmon (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.) led Stockton with a career-high 17 points followed by Hart with 15 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Darius Jerkins (Somers Point/Mainland) tallied 14 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for his first double-double at the college level.
Jaymere Hadden (Millville/Millville) tossed in 12 markers while Cane filled the stat sheet with 11 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Cane tied his career high in assists.
Stockton fell behind 8-0 before Hadden sparked an eight-point outburst with two buckets. The run proved short-lived as Berkeley built a 22-12 lead with a 14-4 spurt. The Ospreys never led in the first half and trailed by as much as 11 points before going to the break down 35-26. Stockton shot just 28 percent from the floor (7-25) and went 1-7 (14.3%) from three-point range.
The Ospreys shaved the deficit down to one point five times in the first 10 minutes of the second half, led by Hadden and Harmon with seven points apiece. Harmon drained a three-pointer with 8:37 on the clock to finally give Stockton its first lead of the game at 58-56. The teams then went toe-to-toe with seven lead changes and five ties in the next 5:27.
Harmon sank a layup that drew the Ospreys into a 71-71 deadlock with 3:10 to play but Berkeley scored the next six points for a 77-71 count.
Zavon Johnson (Trenton/WW-Plainsboro South) hit a three-pointer at the 52-second mark that made it a one-possession game at 79-76, however Stockton did not score again and fell 83-76.
Stockton will jump back into conference play on Wednesday at 8 p.m. when the Ospreys host New Jersey City in a showdown between the top two teams in the NJAC standings.
