BoxscoreGalloway, NJ – Stockton University (9-4, 4-2 NJAC) fell for the second consecutive game as the Ospreys dropped a 74-69 final to New Jersey City (8-4, 6-0 NJAC) on Wednesday night.
Maurice Hart (Asbury Park/Asbury Park) led a trio of Stockton players in double figures with 21 points. The Ospreys shot 15-29 (51.7 %) from the behind the arc but could not overcome the Gothic Knights' second half outburst of 60% (15-25) shooting.
The first half was all Stockton as they were able to sprint out to a lead as many as 13 points at 28-15 with 5:29 left before the break. The advantage was highlighted by an 11-2 run with three-pointers by Hart,
Jaymere Hadden (Millville/Millville) and
Marcus Harmon (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.). NJCU battled back to cut the lead to 30-25 before a Hart trey in the final seconds set the halftime score at 33-25 in favor of the home team.
The early part of the second stanza looked as though the Ospreys would run away with the game. Hadden and Harmon scored five points apiece during a 13-4 run that gave Stockton its biggest lead of the game at 46-31. The momentum swung from there as the Gothic Knights outscored the Ospreys 25-9 over the next 7:41 to take their first lead, 56-55 with 7:10 to play.
Hart responded with a three-pointer 11 seconds later to put Stockton back on top 58-56 but the Ospreys never led again. NJCU scored the next 11 points while Stockton went scoreless for over four minutes and the Ospreys never recovered, suffering their second straight defeat, 74-69.
Hart, who shot 8-16 from the field and 5-9 from beyond the arc, and also tallied three steals. Harmon added a career-high 19 markers, including 5-6 from the three-point line. Hadden chipped in with 16 points and tied
Darius Jerkins (Somers Point/Mainland) with six rebounds each for team high. The Ospreys struggled at the free throw line, shooting a dismal 4-13 (30.8%).
James Frazier led all scorers with 24 points while Khalid Muhammad tallied 12 markers for NJCU. Chinwe Wosu pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds as the Gothic Knights outrebounded the Ospreys 49-34 on the evening.
Stockton will try and return to their winning ways when they travel to Ramapo on Saturday afternoon for an NJAC game at 3 p.m.
