Stockton Comes Up Short 70-64 at Ramapo

Mahwah, NJ – Stockton University (9-5, 4-3 NJAC) battled back from a 14-point first-half deficit and led briefly before ultimately falling short 70-64 at Ramapo (9-5, 5-2) for the Ospreys' third straight defeat. Marcus Harmon (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.) and Jaymere Hadden (Millville/Millville) led Stockton with 16 points apiece.
 
Armin Cane (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) notched a double-double with 12 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Harmon (6-9) and Hadden (6-12) shot a combined 12-21 (57.1%) from the field but the rest of the team was just 11-46 (23.9%). Stockton went only 6-24 (25%) from three-point range and committed a season-worst 23 turnovers.
 
Stockton got off to a slow start, trailing 8-0 after two minutes and 20-10 after eight minutes. The deficit grew all the way to 15 points before the Ospreys closed the half with a 12-4 run to narrow the margin to 40-33. Harmon led the charge with 10 points and finished with 16 in the stanza, nearly half of his team's 33 markers.
 
The Ospreys continued their rally at the start of the second half, opening with a 12-3 spurt to take their first lead of the game at 45-43. This time Hadden headed the outburst, scoring the last eight points consecutively. Ramapo quickly regained the lead and held it for 10 minutes before Darius Jerkins (Somers Point/Mainland) sank a jumper to put Stockton back on top 56-55 with 6:59 to play.
 
Hadden hit a three-pointer at the 5:36 mark to give the Ospreys their biggest lead of the game at 59-55. Except for 38 seconds when the game was tied, Stockton led for the next 3:54. Ramapo tied it 64-64 with 1:42 on the clock and outscored the Ospreys 6-0 the rest of the way by going 6-8 at the line while Stockton was 0-4 from the floor. The result was the third straight setback for the Ospreys, 70-64.
 
Stockton will host Montclair State in an NJAC game on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
