Galloway, NJ - Stockton University (16-7, 4-1 NJAC) won their second consecutive match, besting Rutgers Camden (12-12, 2-4 NJAC) 3-0 on Tuesday night by scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-14.
Stephanie Kovacs (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) topped all players with a match-high 14 kills. The victory also extended Stockton's win streak over the Scarlet Raptors to 17 straight matches.
The Ospreys started slowly, allowing the visitors to gain a quick 3-0 lead to open the match before Stockton ripped off seven straight points behind the serves of
Lindsay Schuele (Sparta/Sparta) and then four more with
Rebecka Zabilowicz (Belmar/Red Bank Regional) serving to take an 11-4 lead. Stockton later closed out the first set 25-20 with Kovacs and
Idi Uffen (Williamstown/Williamstown) spiking four kills each.
The squads battled through the second set with the Scarlet Raptors getting to within one at 16-15 before Stockton called a timeout. Schuele responded with a kill and an ace followed by a kill from Uffen for a 19-15 margin for the Ospreys. Stockton finished out the stanza 25-20 with Kovacs getting five more kills and
Jenna Lara (Ridgefield/Ridgefield) and Schuele accounting for three kills each.
Stockton left no doubt in the final frame as they jumped out to a 15-6 advantage, with
Kennedy Hubbard (Moorestown/Moorestown) coming off the bench to dish six assists during the run. With the Ospreys holding a 24-9 lead, the Scarlet Raptors scored five straight points to close to 24-14 Stockton completed the sweep 25-14.
In addition to Kovacs' 14 kills, Schuele filled the stat sheet with five kills, six digs, a career-high six assists and a season-high five aces.
Jessica Ciandella (Beachwood/Roselle Catholic) added a double-double with match highs of 17 assists and 11 digs to lead Stockton. Zabilowicz chipped in with 10 digs and Lara tallied three blocks at the net.
Cortnee Wilkerson spiked five kills to lead Rutgers-Camden, with Caitlynn Marcano and Meghan Gallagher dishing nine assists apiece and Melanie Kaiser scooping nine digs on the evening.
Stockton will travel to Glassboro, NJ to face Rowan University on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
