Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (9-4-2, 3-2-1 NJAC) rallied from a two-goal deficit in the second half to tie but an overtime tally by unbeaten The College of New Jersey (11-0-1, 6-0 NJAC) downed the Ospreys by a 3-2 score on Wednesday night.
Adrianna Boucher (Hamilton/Steinert) scored both goals on the evening for Stockton. TCNJ came into the contest ranked #9 nationally by the NSCAA.
After a scoreless first half, that saw Stockton get outshot by a 7-0 margin, the Lions broke the deadlock 6:35 into the second frame. Christine Levering scored on a header for a 1-0 advantage and 7:10 later assisted on the second marker, by Elizabeth Thoresen, for the 2-0 margin.
The Ospreys roared back when Boucher scored on a penalty kick to cut the deficit to 2-1 at 73:24. Less than three minutes later, Boucher took a beautiful pass from
Jill DiBlasi (Atco/Hammonton) and knotted the game at 2-2 with her 11th goal of the season at 76:17. Both teams were kept off the board through the last 13:43 of regulation, sending the contest to overtime.
Unfortunately for the Ospreys, it took just 53 seconds for TCNJ to score the winner, as Levering potted her 12th goal of the season from the middle of the box for the 3-2 victory. The Lions held a massive 21-3 shot advantage for the evening but Stockton was able to nail two scores against a nationally-ranked Lions team that came into the game with just four goals allowed all season.
Stockton goalkeeper
Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.) made seven saves in the loss. Jessica Weeder kicked out one shot to remain unbeaten in net for the Lions this season.
