Newark, NJ – Stockton University (20-12, 7-1 NJAC) rolled to a 25-16, 25-20, 25-13 sweep of Rutgers-Newark (14-11, 3-5) in its last conference match of the season. With the victory, the Ospreys reached the 20-win mark for the ninth straight year.
Stephanie Kovacs (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) led Stockton with 13 kills followed by
Jenna Lara (Ridgefield/Ridgefield) with a season-high nine kills plus four blocks.
Jessica Ciandella (Beachwood/Roselle Catholic) dished 20 assists and
Kennedy Hubbard (Moorestown/Moorestown) contributed 16 helpers.
Rebecka Zabilowicz (Belmar/Red Bank Regional) paced the back row with 14 digs. Stockton used all 14 of its healthy players in the match.
Lindsay Schuele (Sparta/Sparta) spiked five of her seven kills in the first set to propel the Ospreys to the 25-16 win. The second set was a little tighter but Stockton prevailed 25-20 behind four kills apiece by Kovacs and Lara. The Ospreys cruised 25-13 in the third set as Kovacs pounded six more kills to help clinch the victory.
Stockton will conclude the regular season by hosting a tri-match on Saturday. The Ospreys will face DeSales at 10 a.m. and Neumann at 2 p.m., with the two visiting teams facing each other in between at noon.
