Stockton Holds Off Stevens for 2-1 Win

Boxscore

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (8-8) scored twice in the last seven minutes of the first half and held off Stevens (9-8) for its second straight win, 2-1. Laura Olbrich (Pittsgrove/A.P. Schalick) led the Ospreys with a goal and an assist.

Stockton dodged a bullet in the first minute as Caroline Bowman (Ocean City/Ocean City) made a defensive save on a Stevens shot that was labeled for the cage. Both goals by the Ospreys came on penalty corners. With just under seven minutes left in the first half, Olbrich inserted a corner to Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) who ripped a shot from the top of the arc for her fifth goal of the season.

Six minutes later, Olbrich went to the left post and tapped in a feed from Victoria Caiazzo (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) to double the Stockton lead to 2-0 with 53 seconds on the first-half clock. The tally was Olbrich's team-leading 12th of the season.

Stevens made it a 2-1 game on one of its nine penalty corners in the second half as Nolie Prouty scored with 20:47 remaining. The Ducks generated seven penalty corners and four shots the rest of the way but the Stockton defense held strong and preserved the team's second straight win, 2-1.

Stockton goalkeeper Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton) made four saves to earn the victory. Emily Stukenborg countered with three stops for Stevens.

Stockton will conclude the regular season with an NJAC home game against Rowan University on Saturday at noon.
