Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (7-7-4, 4-3-2 NJAC) won their fifth straight game and qualified for the NJAC Tournament with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Rutgers-Camden (8-6-4, 4-4-1 NJAC) on Wednesday night.
Anthony Colofranson (Woodbury Hts./Gateway) scored on a penalty kick in the second half to propel the Ospreys to the win. Stockton will host an NJAC first-round game on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
The Scarlet Raptors struck first at 29:25 of the first half on a goal by Travis Chigi for the 1-0 lead. The Ospreys answered less than eight minutes later as
Dan Marino (Turnersville/Washington Twp.) deflected a pass from
Zach Burns (Washington Twp./Washington Twp.) to knot the game at 1-1. That score would last through the rest of the half.
Colofranson nailed his eventual game-winner at 64:16 as he broke behind the Raptors defense and was fouled in the box, setting up his penalty kick. Colofranson's shot hit the upper right corner for his eighth marker of the season and 60th of his sterling career. Stockton's defense made the slim margin hold up to send the Ospreys to the NJAC Tournament with the 2-1 triumph.
Freshman goalkeeper
Michael Lescano (Union/St. Benedict's Prep) earned the victory, his seventh of the season. James Brett made two saves in net for Rutgers-Camden in the loss.
Stockton will host the first round of the NJAC Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. against an opponent that will be determined once all of the tiebreakers are sorted out.
