Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Stockton Doubled 4-2 by Pioneers

Boxscore

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (6-6, 0-2 NJAC) yielded the first two goals of the game and could not erase the deficit, resulting in a 4-2 setback to William Paterson (6-6, 1-2). Jacquie Fenton (Ocean City/Ocean City) scored for the second straight game and Sarah Gawrysiak (Haddon Twp./Haddon Twp.) also potted a goal for the Ospreys.

William Paterson scored the only two goals of the first half, by Carly Satter at 10:03 and Maureen Gill eight minutes later. Stockton outshot the Pioneers 11-4 in the stanza but could not solve Pioneers' goalkeeper Mallory Rickerhauser who made six of her 10 saves before the break, including a couple of beauties on good scoring chances by the Ospreys.

Gawrysiak got Stockton within one on a shot from the middle of the circle for her fourth goal of the season just 3:48 into the second half. WPU answered only 3:51 later as Michaela Melillier scored to push the margin back to two at 3-1.

Fenton closed the gap back to one at 3-2 with 19:58 remaining, firing a shot from the top of the arc that went untouched through traffic and found the left corner of the cage. Stockton was unable to produce the tying goal and Meghin Stanton added gave William Paterson some breathing room by scoring on a penalty stroke with 11:19 on the clock for the 4-2 final.

For the game, Stockton outshot the Pioneers 23-8 and had a whopping 20-4 advantage on penalty corners, but to no avail. Goalkeeper Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton) finished with three saves for the Ospreys.

Stockton  will have a week off before an NJAC road game at #19 Kean University next Saturday, October 15 at 5 p.m.
