Fast Start Propels Stockton to 82-79 Victory

Washington, DC – Stockton University (6-4) jumped out to a 15-0 lead and went on to its third straight victory, 82-79 over Dickinson College (6-3). With the win, the Ospreys advanced to the championship game of the Holiday Inn College Park Classic at Catholic University.
 
Tom Catanoso (Cape May CH/Middle Twp.) went a perfect 10-10 at the line and led Stockton with a game-high 17 points. Brandon Hamilton (Camden/Paulsboro) tossed in 14 markers followed by Marcus Harmon (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.) with 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds. The Ospreys went 33-40 (82.5%) at the stripe in the game, including a torrid 27-31 (87.1%) in the second half.
 
Six different players scored as Stockton built a 15-0 lead in the first 7:05 of the game. The advantage peaked at 19 points, 31-12, on a layup by Blake Rossell (Margate/St. Augustine) with 4:18 left in the first half. Dickinson made a dent in the margin late in the period, trimming Stockton's lead to 39-28 at the break.
 
Stockton scored just six points in the first six minutes of the second half while the Red Devils rallied to take a 46-45 edge. Khaliq Ford (Millville/Millville) scored four points during an 8-0 spurt that put the Ospreys back on top, 53-46. Later, a layup by Maurice Hart (Asbury Park/Asbury Park) made it a 64-53 lead with 7:16 remaining.
 
Dickinson tried to rally late but Stockton went 8-9 from the line in the last 2:22 to protect the lead and win 82-79. Catanoso led the way as he went 6-6 in the final 19 seconds to seal the third straight win for the Ospreys.
 
Stockton will face tournament host Catholic University in the title game of the Holiday Inn College Park Classic tomorrow at 7 p.m.
