BoxscoreGalloway, NJ – Stockton University (5-0) faced its stiffest test of the season so far and responded with a 7-6 victory over St. Joseph's-Long Island (1-2) in overtime.
Brianna Rolke (Berlin/Eastern) scored the game-winner on a free-position shot 43 seconds into the OT.
A pair of freshmen led the Stockton attack.
Sarah Frankovic (Long Valley/West Morris Central) led the Ospreys with three goals and an assist.
Mary Schmid (Lumberton/Holy Cross) contributed a goal and an assist.
Frankovic scored with an assist by Schmid with 8:57 gone in the second half to give Stockton its largest lead in the close game at 6-4. St. Joseph's-LI drew within 6-5 with 14:43 to play and the Ospreys held onto the lead for the 13 minutes as goalkeeper
Mary Stornes (Galloway/Absegami) made four saves during that span.
The Golden Eagles capitalized on a Stockton turnover to tie the game 6-6 on a tally by Meaghan Haber with just 1:30 remaining. St. Joseph's-LI registered two shots in the closing seconds but neither found the mark and the game went to overtime.
The Golden Eagles won the draw control to begin the OT but a turnover gave Stockton possession. After a shot by
Skyler Mahoney-Kendra (Tinton Falls/Monmouth) was saved by goalie Lindsay Ramos, the Ospreys drew a foul and Rolke buried the free-position shot for the 7-6 triumph.
Earlier, Mahoney-Kendra opened the scoring 1:02 into the game but St. Joseph's-LI responded with two straight goals to pull ahead 2-1. Stockton again faced a one-goal deficit at 4-3 after a Golden Eagles' goal with 1:59 on the first-half clock. Schmid tied it 4-4 just 24 seconds later and
Kim Raichelson (Brick/Brick Memorial) put the Ospreys back on top 5-4 with 46 seconds left before the break.
Stornes finished with a season-high nine saves and also caused three turnovers.
Colleen Knight (Pennsauken/Camden Catholic) was a defensive standout with three caused turnovers and two ground balls while
Heather Malosky (Branchburg/Immaculata) snagged a team-high four ground balls.
Haber scored three goals for St. Joseph's-LI and Kristin Carroll netted two. Ramos finished with six saves for the Golden Eagles.
Stockton will continue its five-game homestand on Saturday when the Ospreys host Elizabethtown at 1 p.m.
