Stockton Ends Florida Trip with 9-2 Win

Auburndale, FL – Stockton University (2-10) concluded its stay in Florida with a 9-2 win over Farmingdale State (1-8) that snapped a five-game skid. The contest was halted after six innings due to rain and the second game of the scheduled doubleheader was rained out.
 
Zach Gustites (Flemington/Hunterdon Central), Tyler Hobbs (Brick/Brick Memorial) and Nick LaPorta (Pompton Plains/Pequannock) led the Ospreys with two hits apiece. LaPorta also scored twice while Gustites and Hobbs contributed a run and an RBI apiece.
 
LaPorta led off the second inning with a walk and later scored on an RBI double by Hobbs to give Stockton a 1-0 lead. Farmingdale State tied it 1-1 in the fourth but the Ospreys exploded for eight runs in the top of the fifth to build a commanding 9-1 advantage.
 
Matt Mangarella (Milltown/Spotswood) provided the big blow with a three-run triple. Vaughn Champion (Galloway/Absegami) knocked a two-run single while Gustites and Dan Sweeney (Middletown/Middletown South) added RBI singles. The Ospreys sent 13 batters to the plate in the inning.
 
Farmingdale State scored once in the top of the sixth. Stockton was retired in the bottom of the sixth and the game was halted shortly thereafter due to rain, giving the Ospreys the 9-2 victory.
 
Stockton hurler Dylan Warburton (Sewell/Washington Twp.) tossed all six innings for the win. Warburton allowed just two runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
 
Stockton is scheduled to host Immaculata on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
