Game 1 / Game 2

Reading, PA – Stockton University (8-4) played for the first time following the team's season-opening trip to Florida and split a doubleheader at Alvernia (9-5). The Ospreys won the opener with a 7-0 shutout but dropped the nightcap 3-1.

In the first game, Samantha Shockey (Deptford/Deptford) tossed a one-hit shutout with two strikeouts. Shockey also went 1-4 with three RBI and a run scored on offense. Chelsea Thomas (Barrington/Haddon Hts.) was 3-3 with two runs and a stolen base.

The Ospreys broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the third inning. Shockey singled home the first two runs and Dominique Dorris (Mantua/Clearview) smacked a two-run double to make it 4-0.

Stockton took advantage of two errors to score three more runs in the sixth inning. Thomas registered the only hit of the stanza with a bunt single and Shockey added her third RBI of the game on a groundout to plate the final run of the 7-0 victory.

Danielle Lugo (Vineland/Vineland) went 3-4 with a double and an RBI while Nicole Tomo (Cedar Grove/Cedar Grove) was 2-3 with a run in the nightcap. Shockey came out of the bullpen to toss four scoreless innings but was not involved in the decision. Stockton left nine runners on base in the game.

The Ospreys had a chance to take an early lead but stranded two runners in the first inning. Alvernia then jumped ahead with three runs on five hits and two errors in the second frame for a 3-0 count. Stockton had a chance to score in the sixth as singles by Lugo and Casey Schieda (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) plus a walk to Dorris loaded the bases before a flyout kept them scoreless.

The Ospreys finally got on the board in the top of the seventh. Hopf led off with a single and scored on a two-out double by Lugo. Stockton then put the tying run aboard as Shockey reached on an error and Lugo advanced to third but a groundout ended the game with the Ospreys suffering the 3-1 defeat.
